Brief History about Pens

I have spent so many years loving stationery but never spent the time looking into the history of stationery.

This week's blog is about the history of pens (and I have bought a fair few over the last few months!!!).

History facts about pens:

  • The first fountain pen was made in 1827
  • Ancient Egyptians used to use Reed Pens which was made from Bamboo which are still used in Pakistan today.
  • Quill pens were used a lot in the 18th Century

I have found this week's blog very interesting and educational too! This is something I will definitely be teaching my nieces!

This website is quite cool – history of Parker Pens

Parker Pen Facts:

  •          The Parker snake pen was made in 1907
  •         The High capacity refill pen was made in 1954 with over 750 million pens made

BIC Pen Facts

  • In the 1950’s Marcel Birch introduced a ballpoint pen to the American market. It was called Biro and then Birch shortened the name to BIC.
  • BIC entered the UK marketplace in 1957
  • In 1979 BIC opened their market to Colouring pencils
